Message from the Dean
Welcome to the Faculty of Engineering. Our mission is to impart engineering education and produce engineers that are worthy in character and learning. Since our humble beginning in 1978 we have grown to 5 departments offering 6 programmes: Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering. All the programmes are accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Last year the NUC approved the addition of three new programmes namely Chemical, Petroleum and Telecommunication Engineering bringing the total number of programmes to 9. Our graduates are employed all over the world, in Europe, America, Asia and many places in Africa, participating in human development shoulder to shoulder with their counterparts. Postgraduate programmes are also offered at Diploma, Master and PhD levels. The tuition fee for undergraduate or postgraduate study in the Faculty of Engineering is very reasonable, one of the lowest in Nigeria. Details can be found in the appropriate sections of this website.
This year is yet another exciting year. We are holding two conferences. The first one, in collaboration with the University of Tanta (Egpyt), is coming up in August 2015. The second one is coming up in the last quarter of the year. The University, through the participation of the Faculty, was awarded a certificate by the African Engineering Education Association (AEEA) in May 2015. We are also waiting to participate in this year's universities research and development fair (NURESDEF). We have been the Science and Technology winners of this prestigious national fair in 2010. In 2011 we won the first position nation-wide in research and development in the Techno Expo held by the RMRDC. We are looking forward to winning again. This year will also be the culmination of the review of the Faculty curricula. The Faculty periodically reviews its curricula to keep abreast with the current trends in engineering discipline and be able to respond adequately and appropriately to the needs of the society.
It is not only curricula that we care about in the Faculty of Engineering. We also care about extra-curricular activities. Staff and students participate in all sorts of games. But our favorites this year are football (soccer), basketball and table tennis (engineers are good with their hands). In this year’s inter-faculty games we reached up to the finals in table tennis and basketball. We reached the semi-final stage in football. Our teams are working very hard to bring in all the cups next year. We also have intra-faculty games where students from the 6 departments compete against each other. We have 6 students’ associations in the Faculty. These also plan and carry out other social activities.
We look forward to seeing you in the Faculty of Engineering.
